Japan-Russia International Research Symposium: Mysteries of the Russian Far East Achievements from Scientific Collaboration by Hokkaido University
Hokkaido University (HU), with the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC), held the Japan-Russia International Research Symposium on 5 November 2013 at HU in Sapporo, Japan. The symposium, not only introduced the activities that HU has engaged in with Russian counterpart researchers and related Japanese scientists, but also explored the possibilities for further cooperation and potential projects.
Japan-Russia International Workshop 2013 (JRIW2013) on Infectious Diseases - New Aspects of Epidemiology, Pathogenesis, Treatment and Prevention - was held inTokyo on 26 October, 2013
JRIW2013 provided an international platform for presentations and discussions by Japanese and Russian experts not only about current situation and preventive/cure methods of emergent/re-emergent infectious diseases such as AIDS/HIV, Hepatitis, Influenza, Drug resistance and Tuberculosis, but also about an applicability of probiotics as useful prevention and treatment method. JRIW2013 played a significant role in the history of Japan-Russia medical cooperation as a scientific/academic landmark.
The workshop provided an international platform for presentations and discussions of the current state of UAVs achievements and highlighted problems for discussion at the "round tables”, such as innovations in aeronautics, particularly in the UAV area, and involving young people into aerospace science
The Governing Board of ISTC held its 57th meeting in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on June 26th, 2013. Members of the ISTC Governing Board gathered to discuss developments with respect to the ISTC and to set the direction and priorities for future action

On 25 June 2013, ISTC Executive Director Leo Owsiacki, together with the EU Head of Delegation to Tajikistan, Ambassador Eduard Auer and the President of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan, Professor Mamadsho Ilolov formally opened the newly created Bio-safety and Bio-security Training Centre in Dushanbe
Prominent technologies, such as OLED, polymer nano-composites for solar cells and optical devices, blood serum redox, electrochemical purification of blood plasma from free hemoglobin and miniature X-ray sources from nano- and monocrystal were presented via posters and oral presentations.
